Dad took a syringe to the cherry cordials every year and replaced some syrup with Korbel (Yes, Wisconsin). Pretty darn good. Read more

The Life savers books used to be a welcome stocking stuffer when it came with five flavours, (sometimes) sour, cherry, wint-o green, orange, cinnamon, Butterrum, and peppermint. Now it’s just five flavours and only like 5 rolls. I’m not a “Good old days” person but that is one things that’s gotten worse Read more

Curious as to the production values. Not curious enough to sign up — I won’t give one red cent to this venture — but wondering what kind of home studio situation he has going on, if he has professional help or is setting it up himself, etc. Read more

What is there to hate about chocolate oranges? Is it the orangey flavor? I always look forward to them every year -- especially the dark chocolate ones. Read more

I have no argument with your thoughts on cooking a turkey or your choices of alternative menu items, but you sound a second note on the theme of cost. And here, I have to part company with you. Affogato is my go to dessert coffee drink thing.  I first had it at a ice cream parlor in the UK and have been hooked ever since! I’ve tried it at a few places here in the states and it just doesn’t hit the same. But when you fine “the one” its amazing! There is another version of it that I cannot for the life of me Read more

My favorite bistro near my house always follows macchiato orders with, “It’s not like Starbucks.  It is espresso with a bit of steamed milk.”  I feel for baristas who constantly have to explain that what a customer thinks is a macchiato is not in fact a macchiato. Read more

I’m a fan of forked potatoes, despite the inherent hassle. Get some baby spuds, parboil them and allow to cool slightly. Peel off skin and, using a fork, make grooves in them. From there, you apply oil in a method of your choice and roast them gently until they become crunchy, caramelized chunks of BLISS. Read more

Potato tacos aka tacos de papa are elite. Some shredded cabbage and queso fresco and salsa and we are in business.  Read more

Maine has a chain of potato donut stores (Holy Donut, they’re fine.) That’s presumably why people there are googling them, not as a thanksgiving side.  Read more

Interestingly, the restaurant’s website also lists a Pooch Patio where patrons can bring their pets, and its Instagram page (though outdated) features some warmhearted posts about dogs dining with their owners at the restaurant. This seems slightly at odds with such an unyielding child policy, given that dogs can Read more

Baby Ruth’s were always a “trade for something better” candy when I got them on Halloween. I don’t remember ever getting a Payday, even when the people were handing out full sized candy bars. But if I had gotten one, it would have been traded off too. I love peanuts, but I’m not really a fan of Snickers and similar Read more
